Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid.

I suppose I'm a little late, but I need anyway to share with you my enthusiasm for the color of the year 2014. Its name is Radiant Orchid, and its id number 18-3224

When it was announced, many have protested for this particular nuance is to be handle with caution, but I personally love it! Surely it's less ordinary (...pardon!) than the latest color of the year 201320122011.

Which are the criteria Pantone uses to pick a colour rather than another? A brief answer from the press release makes it almost clear:

"[...] The color of the year selection requires careful consideration and, to arrive at the selection, Pantone quite literally combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention."

It seems then Radiant Orchid "inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health." I personally think it well combines with neutrals, from light grey to beige. It doesn't surprise me that on Etsy it's already a new trend!

Have a great Valentine's Day, and week end!

  1. To be honest, I was happier with Emerald, during 2013: it was one of my favorite colors, and it was extremely versatile... Radiant Orchid is a little 'too much' for certain designs... and for certain people as well!
That said, it is a nice color for spring and I'd love to use it in some of my future creations. Pairing it with neutrals seems such a great idea!

    1. Well, about emerald, I love it, but it's kind of "too much"! It was difficult to wear for many, and to use it for us. Radiant Orchid is fresh, and versatile :D Nonetheless, I wouldn't use it as a stand alone!

  4. It is a beautiful color, not one that I use a lot. I'm one of those people that get stuck in a "color rut" and I should really experiment with others.
